Come and Create The Grange Festival Ai and Us

In partnership with AI in Education, the Come and Create devising project involved 70 young people who immersed themselves in the exciting - if uncertain - world of AI as they unleash their creativity.

Led by a team of experienced creatives, this five-day project allowed participants to conceive and create their own contemporary opera. Using AI tools as a guide and a source of inspiration, they collaborated to develop a story, craft original lyrics, compose music, choreograph dances and design staging and video.

Throughout the project, the young participants explored how to effectively command the AI tools. They learnt to ask the right questions, phrase their queries thoughtfully, and carefully consider the generated ideas. Using their own judgment, they selected the responses that align with their artistic vision and discard those that didn't. This project encouraged collaborative decision making, fast thinking, and critical problem solving. And most importantly creativity, giving the participants the confidence to ‘have a go’.

On the final day, the project culminated in a fully staged production of their own original opera - AI and Us - at The Grange Festival theatre. The project not only provided an innovative creative arts opportunity but also illustrated that, if used imaginatively, AI will open up a whole new world of artistic expression.
